Tompkins County Office of Human Rights unveils new brand logo

ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – One Tompkins County department has a new identity.

The Office of Human Rights (OHR) unveiled a rebranded logo earlier this month featuring an olive branch atop a dark blue O and a hand holding the icon. The “O” serves as the “O” in the “Office of Human Rights,” and the olive branch references the branch held by an eagle in the Tompkins County Seal.  Officials say the logo “evokes the global importance of human rights, the office’s responsibility to uphold human rights through its work, and the foundational importance of peace.”

Last year, county staff pushed for a new logo to increase awareness of contemporary issues and the services offered by the Human Rights Office. A survey was sent out to community stakeholders, who ranked “welcoming,” “inclusivity,” “support,” and “peace” among the top things that should be incorporated into the brand.

“OHR’s new brand identity, colors, and symbols reflect our mission and commitment to the Tompkins County community to promote civil and human rights,” said Director of the Office of Human Rights Ken Clarke. “More than any other time since the end of World War II – which gave rise to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights – civil and human rights today need to be advanced, defended, and implemented, especially in working with and learning from underserved individuals in populations.”

New signage was installed at the West State Street building and will be replaced on materials throughout the county.
