NEWFIELD, NY (607NewsNow) – A teacher at Newfield High School is being recognized at the state level.

On April 15, State Senator Lea Webb presented Liz Kozlowski with the NYS State Senate’s Educators Inspiring a Generation Award, which is part of the Educator Recognition Program.

Kozlowksi, who joined the Newfield Central School District (NCSD) in 2012, was one of six teachers in Senate District 52 to receive an award.

“Educators go above and beyond every day to show up for their students,” said Webb. “These awards are a small token of my appreciation and recognition for the teachers in my district who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to student success, inspire a love of learning, and make a lasting impact both inside and outside the classroom.”

According to NCSD, Kozlowski teaches several classes in English Language Arts (ELA) and beyond, including Academic Writing, Approaches to Literature, and Introduction to Sociology, all concurrent enrollment courses that allow students to earn college credits.

High School Principal Ed Medina nominated Kozlowski for the award.

“Liz exemplifies what it means to be an inspiring educator,” said Medina. “Her ability to build meaningful relationships with students while challenging them to grow academically and personally is truly exceptional.”

Additionally, Kozlowski serves as NCSD’s PK-12 Instructional Coach for ELA, advises multiple student organizations, including the National Honor Society. She helped develop curriculum for the Cornell Upward Bound program and was part of the TST BOCES Aspiring Leaders cohort.
