Ithaca to consider adopting ranked-choice voting

ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — A different method of casting ballots might be coming to Ithaca.

Ranked-choice voting will be explored by the city’s Charter Commission. The group, which was introduced on Aug. 13 by Mayor Robert Cantelmo, will also consider changes to term lengths.

Ranked-choice voting is currently used in New York City for primary and special elections. The method allows voters to rank candidates by preference, instead of voting for one contender.

Members of the commission have not yet been finalized. Interested residents should contact Mayor Cantelmo’s office at mayorcantelmo@cityofithaca.org or 607-391-5862.

This year’s song of the summer is a ballad, not a banger. Here’s what that says about us

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary."
