CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — Roads in Cortland County are getting extra attention.

Legislative Chair Kevin Fitch says over three million dollars that remains in Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS) funding from last year’s budget will be put to good use.

Fitch also tells 607 News Now why money was left over from 2025.

“We’ve had efficiencies with bids for road materials, Fitch told WHCU’s Joe Salzone on 607 This Morning. “The [county’s] highway crew is pretty efficient, and I think that’s where [the leftover funding] comes from.”

The funding was rolled into the budget for 2026.
