DeRUYTER, NY (607NewsNow) — The DeRuyter Fire Department is preparing to mark a milestone: 80 years of the Firemen’s Fair.

The 4-day event will see the DeRuyter Fairgrounds morph into a family-friendly entertainment venue featuring live music, competitive sports, animal shows, and fireworks.

“The Firemen’s Fair is really a mix of old-fashioned fair tradition and community celebration,”
organizers said. “People come for the rides, pulls, food, music, fireworks, and events, but they
also come because it still feels like a true small-town fair experience.”

Families from Cortland, Chenango, Madison, and Onondaga counties have made the yearly trek since the fair began in 1946. This year’s event will feature some new activities.

“New features this year include a Saturday evening clambake, a mechanical bull attraction,
additional vendors, pony rides for children, and a Life Net helicopter demonstration Saturday
afternoon,” according to a news release.

The DeRuyter Firemen’s Fair will run from Aug. 6 to Aug. 9.
