ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — A Tompkins County lawmaker is worried about street safety.

During a meeting on Sept. 2, Legislator Randy Brown said people are dangerously zipping around Ithaca on bicycles.

“I see this all over the place,” Brown said. “People running stop signs; I’ve almost hit somebody.”

Ithaca Alderperson Patrick Kuehl said he’s also dealt with reckless biking on College Avenue.

“I would be in favor of increased enforcement on that, as long as we’re investing in bike infrastructure and making sure that people actually have a safe place to ride their bikes,” Kuehl said.

Ithaca Alderperson Pierre Saint-Perez said he’s optimistic about the situation.

“We have a vibrant biking community in Ithaca,” Saint-Perez said. “I’m hopeful that people will learn.”
