ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Parking might become less stressful at a bank in Ithaca.

Beginnings Credit Union on North Meadow Street is looking to add nearly a dozen spaces. VP of Marketing & Service Excellence Katie Foley said parking at the branch is currently a pain.

“We often find drivers and members trying to improvise how they’re sort of getting in and out of spaces, often parking in inappropriate spaces to try to get into the branch,” she said.

Foley said about 400 members visit the location on a daily basis. If plans are approved by the Ithaca Planning & Development Board, the branch will have roughly 25 total spaces to park.

The expansion parking lot would be located on a grassy area next to the building. Board member Andy Rollman, who’s working with others to rewrite Ithaca’s zoning code, expressed concerns about the project.

“This building has always been, for me, problematic because I think it represents something that feels very suburban in a neighborhood that we’re looking to be very urban,” he said.

Board member Jennie Sutcliffe said the proposed parking lot “looks great.” She said she once had a fender bender at the branch.
