CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) – An attempted murder trial is delayed in Cortland.

The Cortland Voice reports that 59-year-old Steven Burda’s trial has been adjourned for “undisclosed reasons,” and has not yet been rescheduled.

Burda, who faces a 17-count indictment, is accused of firing at officers with a shotgun in January 2024 as they were serving eviction papers at his residence on Homer Avenue.

He was shot in the leg during the dispute. A Cortland County grand jury cleared the involved officer of wrongdoing in February 2024.

Burda, who has pleaded not guilty, faces four counts each of first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted murder, attempted aggravated assault of a police officer, prohibited use of weapons, and a single count of criminal possession of a weapon.

He remains in Cortland County Jail.
