Some traffic lights, businesses without power in Ithaca after gas leak

STORY UPDATE 10/2 3:00 P.M. – The City of Ithaca Fire Department is assisting with NYSEG repairs. NYSEG shut down power when the incident was reported for safety reasons. NYSEG estimates service will be fully restored by 6:00 p.m. If you smell gas, call 1-800-572-1121.

Residents who were asked to evacuate their homes should call NYSEG’s emergency hotline at 1-800-572-1121 when they return home. The NYSEG gas department will stop by to verify everything is safe to use. 

ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Some residents and businesses are without power after a gas leak in Downtown Ithaca.

Authorities have confirmed the gas leak occurred at the intersection of South Titus Street and South Albany Street. Traffic lights and businesses near that end of the city are without power. Officials remind drivers to treat traffic lights with no power as four-way stops. Avoid the area if possible. NYSEG officials were unable to confirm when the power would be restored.
