ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT) has officially dedicated the Tapan Mitra Preserve in Ithaca.

Though it was renamed in honor of Dr. Mitra after his death in 2019, FLLT held a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 10, 2023, to celebrate public access improvements, an information kiosk, improved parking and a 7-acre addition. Dr. Mitra was a professor of economics at Cornell that collaborated with FLLT. FLLT Executive Director Andrew Zepp says his staff as well as Mitra’s family thought this was a fitting tribute.

The Tapan Mitra Preserve is vital to Cayuga Lake’s water quality, protecting more than a mile of frontage on the Cayuga Inlet.
