The better part of my very-early youth was spent moving around from place to place with my family, from stints at a hippie community in Hilton Head South Carolina, where I learned about art, succotash, and dubious houseplants … to a few years living on a Girl Scout camp in the Southern Tier of New York, where I learned to fish, hunt for sassafras root, and generally fend for myself. I would often “entertain” (embarrass) my mother and her friends by writing and performing live ‘commercials’ for found objects (often feminine products that were in the cabinet). In my teenage years, I discovered my psychic abilities, when in an argument with my mom over why I dropped all of my science classes in favor of art courses, I exclaimed, “I don’t need science, when I grow up I’m going to be a RADIO DJ!!!!” Little did I know how false that statement would turn out to be… I never DID grow up!

Career Highlights?
Giving a Wonder Woman PEZ dispenser to Tori Amos after debating the shoe collections of Imelda Marcos vs. KISS; and getting kicked out of a Barenaked Ladies concert (no comment).

What would people be most surprised to learn about you?
I have rather large tattoos; I love (and participate in) roller derby; I have my motorcycle license; I’m allergic to garlic (I usually get the most astonished response from that one).

What is your favorite album?
Of all time? Sorry, I can’t pick just one!!
Tori Amos – “Boys for Pele”
Concrete Blonde – “Bloodletting”
Sneaker Pimps – “Becoming X”
Cure – “Disintegration”
anything Portishead, Massive Attack “Mezzanine”… alright I’m gonna stop right there.

Music people would be surprised you love?
Frank Zappa, Allman Brothers Band (and all side projects), NIN (90s-era “industrial”), rockabilly, lounge, gypsy jazz, any project by Mike Patton… again, I’m gonna stop right there.

What was your first concert?
Eric Clapton when I was 5 years old… do I remember it? No. But I do remember the tiny yellow concert t-shirt I got from the show.

Favorite movies?
Harold and Maude, Motorcycle Diaries, Office Space, Sixteen Candles, Better Off Dead, Heathers, O Brother Where Art Thou, They Live, Donnie Darko, Eternal Sunshine, A Clockwork Orange, Ghost World, Run Lola Run, Swingers, Garden State, …

TV shows you can’t miss?
Sorry, I don’t do TV.

Best advice you have ever gotten?
“Systems, NOT fires…” Basically, don’t waste your time putting out “fires” when concentrating on putting systems in place will prevent the little emergencies in the first place 🙂

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary." As Berklee College of Music professor and forensic musicologist Joe Bennett notes, the February release is "a fair bit slower than the mean average for the Hot 100, or for a historical song of the summer."
